All of this activity explains why there is no new album this year - but Lewis has already started meeting with songwriters - Ryan Tedder, Claude Kelly, Adam Levine - for her next CD. A tour is set to follow in 2010.
For the meantime, however, fans will have to make do with the smattering of extra tracks on the deluxe edition of Spirit.
I suggest that it is a bit cheeky to expect people to pay twice for what is, essentially, the same album - but Lewis is well-prepared for this line of questioning.
"The new stuff will be available on iTunes as well if the fans just want the songs," she points out, before listing other reasons to buy the new version - including a behind-the-scenes DVD and "different artwork and packaging".
And what should people do with the album they bought last year?
"Keep it!" Lewis exclaims.
If this seems disingenuous, it is not intentional. Lewis is one of the most down-to-earth pop stars in the business.
She still lives in Hackney, so she can be close to her parents, watches X Factor - "I Sky Plus it" - and says high street chain Accessorise is her favourite place to buy jewellery.
Would she secretly like to bring home the couture gowns she gets to wear in magazines like Harper's Bazaar, though?
"Yeah, of course I would," she says, then pauses. "But I'd never wear them."
Forgive Me is out now. The deluxe edition of Spirit is released on 17 November by SonyBMG.

The re-released version of Spirit includes several new tracks, including the star's new single, Forgive Me. As it's Lewis's first uptempo single, the video gives her a chance to break out a big-budget song and dance spectacular. "It's based on a whole load of different musicals, because I was in Carousel when I was six," she explains. "So we've got a massive merry-go-round in there. "There's also West Side Story, and a Fosse interpretation, and we did Singing In The Rain." However, if you pay close attention, Lewis isn't actually dancing much at all, leaving all the hard work to her backing artists. "I love dancing," she says defensively, "but I am a singer and that is what I do." Surely she must have studied dance at school? "I did. My mum was a ballet teacher, so I've always loved dance, and I liked doing classes and things like that - but not professionally." Could this be a chink in Lewis's armour? Did she flunk her dance classes? "Actually, I got an 'A' in music and in dance at the Brits," she giggles. "But it was mostly theory." If Lewis is somehow too tired to tango, it is probably because 2008 has been a whirlwind. The star has appeared on Oprah, visited Africa for Comic Relief, played the MTV Asia Awards in Malaysia, and closed the Olympics in Beijing, duetting with Jimmy Page atop a London Routemaster Bus. "My passport is crazy," she says. "I've got so many air miles, my family is flying free everywhere at the moment." And have the Olympics organisers approached her about a repeat performance in 2012? "I'm sure they're still putting stuff together for that - but I'd hope to be involved in some way." "It'd have to be something new - they'd have to top that big old London bus. The recent record losses of ice cover in the Arctic has led to suggestions that the region could have reached a "tipping point" but some uncertainty over the causes had remained, explained co-author Seymour Laxon.
"The extent can change because the ice can be redistributed, increasing the amount of open water," he told BBC News. "But this does not reduce the overall amount of ice."
To determine whether the reduction in sea ice extent is the result of ice being piled up against the coast or whether it is the result of melting, you need to measure the thickness."
"I think this is the first time that we can definitively say that the bulk overall volume of ice has decreased," observed Dr Laxon.
"So this means melting; it doesn't mean that the ice has just been pushed up against the coastline."
Dr Giles explained that the measurements gathered by satellite provided a continuous data-set and had a number of advantages over other methods.
"Drilling, submarines or aircraft; all of these techniques can be limited by time and space," she said.
"You can only sample relatively small areas, and you cannot have a continuous time series - it's a very harsh environment, so field experiments in winter are logistically difficult."
"We have been using satellite data, which means we get coverage all across the Arctic Ocean (apart from the very centre) and we get it continuously, so we have great coverage both in terms of time and area."
The measurements were recorded via a radar altimeter onboard the European Space Agency's (Esa) Envisat satellite.
The altimeter fires pulses of electromagnetic waves down on to the ice, which reflects them back up to a receiver on the satellite.
The time taken for the waves to complete this journey is recorded, and it is a fairly straightforward calculation to work out the height of the ice above sea level.
As one tenth of the ice sits above the water, it is then possible to work out the overall volume and thickness of ice in that location.
Dr Laxon said the project's findings are being used to help climate modellers refine their projections of what is going to happen in the future.
"The time when Arctic sea ice is going to disappear is open to a lot of debate," he said.
"About five years ago, the average projection for the sea ice disappearing was about 2080.
"But the ice minimums, and this evidence of melting, suggests that we should favour the models that suggest the sea ice will disappear by 2030-2040, but there is still a lot of uncertainty."
The researchers hope to keep the data series, funded by the EU and the Natural Environmental Research Council (Nerc), running for as long as satellite-based measurements are available.

In Venezuela, Argentina and other Latin American countries, incumbent presidents have sought to change the national constitutions to give them the possibility to serve a second consecutive term in office. Presidents have argued that, in the modern world, it is necessary to have continuity over more than four years if effective policies for change are to be pushed through. President Zelaya pushed to hold a vote asking the Honduran electorate whether they were in favour of constitutional reforms by setting up a constituent assembly. The Supreme Court declared such a vote illegal and in violation of the constitution. When Mr Zelaya pressed on with his plans to hold the vote on 28 June - seen by his critics as a move to end the current one-term limit on serving as president - the scene was set for a showdown. The military moved in to arrest him and fly him out of the country. The leader of Congress, Roberto Micheletti, was subsequently sworn in as interim president. Mr Micheletti had always been a rival of Mr Zelaya's within the Liberal Party, and the two men clashed again when Mr Micheletti stood in the Liberal Party primary for the November elections. Mr Micheletti and his followers, including the armed forces, have argued that Mr Zelaya overstepped the constitutional provisions, acting illegally by seeking to call a referendum on his own authority. Unfortunately for President Zelaya, he has not succeeded in creating a power base within Honduran society that will defend him on the streets or in Congress. In Venezuela, President Hugo Chavez was an ex-army officer who spent several years gathering support before embarking on his programme of radical change, which he put to the electorate at every stage. Similarly in Honduras's neighbour, El Salvador, where the left-wing FMLN won the presidency in 2008, the former guerrilla grouping has worked at a grassroots level for many years to convince voters they are a responsible democratic party that will only bring in change gradually and by consensus. In Nicaragua, Honduras's southern neighbour, the former revolutionary Sandinista party managed to maintain support in trade unions, popular groups and the armed forces after being voted out of power in 1989.
